At Open World Games, we’re still in love with everything Ghost of Tsushima accomplished — from its breathtaking world design to its unforgettable combat. So when we first heard about Ghost of Yōtei, we knew it would be one of the most anticipated open world titles of the decade. And now, with its official release date set for October 2, 2025, the wait is almost over.

A New Story, A New Hero
In Ghost of Yōtei, you step into the role of Atsu, a mercenary whose life was forever changed by the Yōtei Six — the gang responsible for her family’s death. Sixteen years later, Atsu’s return to the island of Ezo (historic Hokkaido) sets her on a journey of vengeance. But as the story unfolds, Atsu will find that her path isn’t only about revenge — it’s also about forging new alliances, discovering purpose, and shaping her own legacy.
Set during the Edo period, Ghost of Yōtei takes us roughly 300 years beyond the events of Ghost of Tsushima.
A World Worth Exploring
Set during the Edo period, Ghost of Yōtei takes us roughly 300 years beyond the events of Ghost of Tsushima. This time, the adventure unfolds in the shadow of the majestic Mount Yōtei, where snow-covered peaks, serene flower fields, dense forests, and vibrant villages create one of the most beautiful backdrops ever seen in an open world game. Exploration feels organic, with activities ranging from painting landscapes and camping in the wilderness to relaxing in hot springs or trading with locals. It’s a world designed to reward curiosity at every turn.

Deep Combat & New Tools
Combat once again promises to be a highlight, offering players a wide arsenal that includes katanas, odachi, dual blades, kusarigama, yari, bows, bombs, and even early firearms. Each weapon comes with its own style and strengths, encouraging players to experiment. Unique mechanics like disarming enemies, or even summoning a wolf companion, give combat new layers of creativity and strategy. Plus, the new clue system opens up optional quests and branching adventures, making every battle feel like it matters.
Ghost of Yōtei is being developed with the PS5 in mind, which means haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, cinematic filters, and next-gen visuals will fully immerse players in Atsu’s world.
Built for the PlayStation 5 Experience
Ghost of Yōtei is being developed with the PS5 in mind, which means haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, cinematic filters, and next-gen visuals will fully immerse players in Atsu’s world. For those who loved the challenge in Tsushima, Lethal Mode is back, ensuring hardened samurai have their skills put to the test. And yes — customization options and photo mode will once again let players capture their most cinematic moments.

Looking Ahead
Even after launch, Ghost of Yōtei won’t be slowing down. A free expansion called Ghost of Yōtei Legends is already confirmed for 2026, bringing co-op play, supernatural survival elements, and exciting new challenges into the mix.
